Eva Ohlow - Art for Sale

German-born Eva Ohlow uses a wide variety of materials in her art, including sheet metals, rubber, and Plexiglas (an acrylic glass sheet material). She often combines painted surfaces with her creations. Ohlow has exhibited many times and has been involved with architectural decoration in Germany.

Eva Ohlow was born in Cologne in 1940 and studied at the universities of applied arts Cologne and Wuppertal from 1959 to 1966 under Professor Schaffmeister. From 1966 she worked as an assistant to her father, the artist Prof. Hubert Berke up until 1979.

Ohlow’s works cross the boundary between planar art and sculpture often appearing flat and three-dimensional dependent on viewpoint. Her art is categorized as postwar and contemporary but it is difficult to attribute an accurate art genre to her creations as they are very unique to the artist. Ohlow travelled widely, taking on ethnological projects as well as architectural projects in Cologne and other parts of Germany.

From 1966 to 1979 Ohlow was art assistant in architecture with Professor Hubert Berke in Cologne. She stayed at the Villa Romana, Florence in 1976, and in 1983 took a trip to North West India. In 1988 Ohlow was involved with the overall colour design of the north-west centre of Frankfurt and, in that same year, undertook a trip to the Congo in Central Africa to participate in the symposium "Afro - European" under the patronage of Johannes Rau. The stay lasted until 1992 when, in that same year, she designed an entrance ceiling painting for the Kulturzentrum (cultural centre) in Eindhoven. In 1995 she undertook a project called 'Feuer, Wasser, Erde, Luft' (Fire, Water, Earth, Air) at the headquarters of GEW in Cologne. 1998 saw studies of clay architecture in Mali and Burkina Faso.

Eva Ohlow undertook a number of prestigious architectural art projects including, in 1998, the overall colour design of the north-west centre of Frankfurt. In 1999 and 2000 Ohlow took on the artistic design and creation of the entire colour concept of the Agrippabad (swimming pool), Cologne and in 2004, as part of the Wiesbaden Art Summer 2004, was guest lecturer at Wiesbaden's city park sculpture exhibition. She travelled to Mexico in 2011 to study in Toluca and in 2006 provided the colour design of the Höhenbergbad public bath in Cologne. In 2012 she exhibited photographs for the Energiezentrum Hessen (Hessen Energy Centre) and designed wall work at the Kranhaus business centre in Cologne.

Eva Ohlow continues to live and work in Cologne and still pushes the boundaries of her art by seeking out new materials and techniques to work with.
