DESCRIPTION: A large post-impressionist oil on canvas by the important French painter Eugène-Antoine Durenne entitled 'Cagnes, Le Soir' (Cagnes, evening). The work is large for a Durenne and is dated 1926. The painting shows the landscape of the French Riviera town of Cagnes. Durenne works have been catalogued by Galerie Durand-Ruel, which was established by Paul Durand-Ruel and was concerned with establishing the first impressionists such as Whistler, Degas, Renoir, Sisley, Manet, Pissarro and Monet. The painting is presented in its original period frame.
