DESCRIPTION: For sale - a pastel of a landscape with cottages by Harry Phelan Gibb. This painting in pastels has very fine stroke work - with delicate hues of light green and careful outlines of a set of cottages. It is clearly influenced by the work of Paul Cezanne. The tallest tree anchors the scene in the centre, and a very light blue shines as the sky in the distance. The frame feels early C20th with a band of fibre around the white edges. Gibb has been called 'One of the great unsung heroes of British and European Modernism' by the Frestonian. His work is gaining in popularity in Ireland, in Northumbria (he was from Alnwick) and there is a significant body of works at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne.
