DESCRIPTION: For sale - a gouache painting of a tiger by Harry Phelan Gibb. Tiger's were a popular subject for Phelan Gibb and a wash print is held in the V&A Collection. The tiger here is licking its paws, or something in them. Unusually for Phelan it is executed against black. and in a darker more naturalistic moment. The two ends of the animal - its tongue and its bushy tail are captured to give a real sense of the beast.
